New publication! Shedding light on deep-sea ecosystems of the North Atlantic

TwinDEEPS is delighted to share the publication “Deep-sea ecosystems of the North Atlantic Ocean: discovery, status, function and future challenges”, an impressive review paper that brought together over 70 experts from across the region, including TwinDEEPS members, to synthesise what is known, and still needs to be discovered, about life in the deep North Atlantic.

This paper reviews current knowledge of 18 pelagic and benthic deep-sea ecosystems (from mesophotic habitats to hadal trenches), uncovering how biodiversity and ecosystem functions vary across this vast ocean basin. It also highlights where knowledge gaps remain and calls for greater equity in deep-sea research through shared infrastructure and capacity building.

This publication highlights what can be achieved through large scale collaboration combining data, expertise, and perspectives from across the Atlantic to support sustainable management and conservation of the deep sea. You can read the full article here.
