One of TwinDEEPS Early Career Researchers participated in the roundtable “Exploring, Regulating and Communicating the Deep Sea”, organised by the Sustainable Ocean Alliance Porto Hub.
This event brought together a diverse group of participants to reflect on the scientific, legal, and ethical dimensions of deep-sea exploration, as well as the essential role of communication in supporting its protection.
The discussion addressed several topics, including:
- The main scientific challenges associated with exploring deep-sea environments
- Legal and ethical considerations related to the use and conservation of deep-sea resources
- The importance of effective science communication in raising public awareness and promoting the protection of these ecosystems
The roundtable provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on one of the least understood biomes of the planet and the decisions that will shape its future. It also reinforced the importance of dialogue between science, policy, and society in addressing complex ocean challenges.
