TwinDEEPS workshop “Metagenomic and Bioinformatic Tools for Deep-Ocean Observation and Diversity Studies” was hosted in Porto, Portugal.
The workshop brought together participants to explore state-of-the-art molecular and computational approaches for studying deep-sea biodiversity and supporting deep-ocean observation.
As part of the TwinDEEPS training programme, the workshop aimed to strengthen the skills of the next generation of deep-sea researchers by providing both theoretical and practical training in current methodologies, including environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding, metagenomics, and the bioinformatic tools used to analyse next-generation sequencing data.
Throughout the workshop, participants gained hands-on experience in processing and interpreting genomic data, developing the expertise needed to investigate marine biodiversity and better understand the structure and functioning of deep-sea ecosystems.
