Research stay at IMR to strengthen TwinDEEPS’ data management capacity

From 11 to 20 February 2026, TwinDEEPS data steward Carolina Ventura carried out a research stay at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Norway, reinforcing the consortium’s collaboration on ocean data management practices.

The visit focused on knowledge exchange on IMR’s ocean data management practices and sharing insights into established procedures for handling, curating, and archiving large marine datasets.

This research stay also provided an opportunity for our data steward to gain hands-on experience with the import and preparation of video and image data collected during the project’s Gorringe Expedition into BIIGLE, a widely used software for marine image annotation. This included learning how to effectively organize visual data and prepare it for subsequent annotation workflows, which are essential for the analysis of deep-sea habitats and species.
