TwinDEEPS at the 6th Marine Imaging Workshop

TwinDEEPS participated in the 6th Marine Imaging Workshop, where our data steward presented the project’s work on improving the management and reuse of marine imaging data.

The presentation, entitled “FAIR & Open Marine Imaging Data Workflow: from Deep-Sea Exploration Planning to Data Reuse”, showcased the marine imaging data workflow being developed within TwinDEEPS and highlighted how FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) principles are being integrated throughout the entire data lifecycle, supporting transparent and sustainable management of marine imaging data.

Using the TwinDEEPS expedition to the Gorringe Bank as a case study, the presentation demonstrated how FAIR practices can be implemented from the initial stages of data management planning through to data publication and long-term reuse. The workflow aims to ensure that marine imaging data generated by the project remains accessible, interoperable and reusable well beyond the project’s duration.

The presentation also highlighted the contribution of TwinDEEPS partners, including NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, and the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway, whose expertise supports the development of robust data management practices and open science approaches within the project.

By advancing FAIR and open data practices, TwinDEEPS is contributing to a more collaborative and sustainable framework for marine research, maximising the long-term value of deep-sea imaging data for the wider scientific community.
