To mark World Ocean Day 2026, TwinDEEPS took part in outreach activities aimed at raising awareness among younger generations about the importance of the ocean and the need to protect it.
Two of our members spent the day engaging with students, sharing insights into the vital role the ocean plays in sustaining life on Earth and highlighting why marine research and conservation are essential for a sustainable future.
The activities focused particularly on the deep ocean, which is one of the least explored environments on our planet. Participants were introduced to the unique ecosystems and extraordinary biodiversity found in the deep sea, while learning about the scientific research being carried out to better understand and protect it.
By encouraging curiosity about the hidden world beneath the ocean’s surface, TwinDEEPS hopes to inspire the next generation of deep-sea scientists and ocean stewards, reinforcing the importance of investing in ocean literacy and fostering a greater appreciation of the marine environment.
